Handwoven on traditional Malabar Frame looms in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, the Udupi cotton saree is a GI-tagged revival weave– reclaimed by master weavers after nearly being lost to powerlooms. Discover the timeless, graphic elegance of coastal Karnataka with our Monochrome Gingham Udupi Saree. Handwoven on traditional Malabar Frame looms—a heritage technique introduced nearly 150 years ago by the Basel Mission—this GI-tagged revival piece is a masterclass in minimalist handloom artistry.

The body features a bold, large-scale black and white check pattern, creating a classic gingham grid that feels both modern and deeply rooted in tradition. This monochrome palette is thoughtfully punctuated with thin mustard-gold stripes running at intervals, adding a warm, artisanal accent that elevates the entire drape. The pallu carries this bold check pattern through to the end, finished with classic hand-cut fringe tassels in black and white.

Woven from premium 60s count cotton yarn for both warp and weft, this saree is feather-light and exceptionally breathable. Its crisp, airy feel against the skin makes it an ideal companion for the Indian tropical climate—perfect for professional office wear, structured daily draping, or staying cool during humid summer days.
