Handwoven on traditional Malabar Frame looms in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, the Udupi cotton saree is a GI-tagged revival weave– reclaimed by master weavers after nearly being lost to powerlooms. This burnt orange and olive green handwoven Udupi cotton saree is feather-light, breathable, and built for the Indian tropical climate, effortlessly comfortable for work, casual outings, and long summer days.

Description

Handwoven on traditional Malabar Frame looms, introduced to coastal Karnataka by the Basel Mission of Germany — the Udupi cotton saree carries nearly 150 years of weaving heritage in every thread. Delicate in appearance yet built to last generations, this is a saree that only grows more beautiful with time. This rust and olive handwoven Udupi cotton saree features a body of plain weave, scattered with delicate small white woven buttis across the entire length — understated yet quietly beautiful up close. The border is a deep olive green with a thin pink-red pinstripe accent along the inner edge, adding an earthy, grounded contrast to the warm body. The pallu deepens into an olive-khaki base with horizontal white pinstripes and rows of woven buti motifs, finishing with a bottle green stripe and mixed fringe tassels in orange, green and rust. This saree is woven using 60s count cotton yarn. Feather-light, breathable, and crisp against the skin, it is everything a handloom cotton saree should be. Perfect for daily wear, office draping, casual outings, and hot summer days.
