Finding authentic Indian weaves is harder than it looks

Real weavers rarely answer you

Most of what you find online claiming to be "weaver-direct" is sold by designers or retailers, not weavers. A weaver's only job is to weave, not to sell. Reaching one means visiting their village, more than once, until they trust you enough to work with you. Even then, many still won't respond.

Authentic has a legal definition, not a marketing one

Certain weaves carry a GI tag, a Geographical Indication. It means only weavers from that specific region are permitted to produce that saree. If anyone else makes it, however good it looks, it isn't the original.

You can't test fabric through a screen

Silk content. Zari purity. Weave density. None of it can be judged from a photo or a video call. It has to be tested by hand, in person, before it ever reaches you.
